Big Boy Hair...

My Ethan soon will be two years old and got his first professional haircut this weekend. Carrie, who does Sue's hair and used to cut Elliott's when he was young, was kind enough to come over to my MIL's house on Sunday and give Ethan his first big boy hair cut. There's a huge difference between the before and afters but he still looks cute, just alittle older now! The hair cut came at a perfect time too since next Tuesday we are getting family pictures taken from one of Elliott's clients. :o)

Who's a Spoiled Boy?

So, I think Ethan has hit the motherload this past week. He's gotten so many clothes from us, Grandma Sue, and Nana Feehan. Obviously he's going to need new Fall and Winter clothes this year since all the ones from last year are 12-18 months and he doesn't fit in them any longer. But it's just funny how we all decided to go shopping for him in the same week. So, all together he's got: 9 Long sleeved t-shirts, 2 sweaters, 2 zip up hooded sweatshirts, 2 pair of pants, 1 pair of tennis shoes, 6 short sleeved t-shirts, 1 polo shirt, 2 pair of pajamas plus a brown knit hat, a puzzle and a Little People firetruck. Now, if that isn't spoiled than I don't know what is! ;o)

Sprucing Up the Porch...

Finally got around to putting up our mailbox this weekend....even though it was like pulling teeth to get Elliott to do it..lol. It looks soooo much better than the temporary old rusted white one that was just sitting on our porch. Plus, we also got a new bench from Ikea to put in the corner of the porch. My idea for that is when holidays like Halloween and Christmas roll around, I can put some fun decorations on it and in the summer it'll just house our flower pots like it is now. By the way, what do you think of the gargoyle? It's Elliott's and he insists it be displayed on the front porch...so it's new home is now the corner of the bench. The only thing I'm kinda stumped with is what to put on the bottom of the bench....any thoughts? Here are some before and after shots of the porch:
Before we really did anything to the front of the house (the "don't occupy" sign is still on the door):

Before the screen door was even installed (If you look really hard, you can see Ethan peaking through the "prison window" on our front door, lol):

After I painted the front door brown (see the ugly white mailbox just sitting in the corner...bleh!):

Now with the new mailbox and the new bench:

My Dresser Redo

For awhile now, I've been wanting to replace our tall dresser that's in our bedroom. It's a cheap dresser from target and with the cats jumping all over it and Ethan tugging at it, it's basically ready to fall apart. We have a tv that we want to put in our bedroom but with the dresser being so unstable, I was afraid to put anything heavy on top of it. So, that brings me to my weekend project. I have an older dresser from when I was younger that actually has some pretty carved details but needed to be sanded and refinished. Well, I was feeling ambitious on Saturday and after Ethan went down to take his morning nap, I went out to the garage and started sanding. In the afternoon, Elliott & I had to run to Home Depot for some supplies and had to stop at the MIL's house and borrow their hand sander so I could finish sanding the top and the drawers. Anyways, a one day and $40 later (sand paper, primer, paint, roller, and foam brushes) and it's all done! I decided to paint it instead of stain it because in some parts the dresser has this veneer stuff that had chipped off in some places and I was worried about how the difference in staining would turn out. So, we decided on a dark brown and I think it turned out pretty well considering it was my first time painting a piece of furniture. I think I still want to spray paint the hardware maybe a pewter color....but that's for another time :o)

Finally feeling like Home...

Finally getting some more personal touches on our house. Elliott put up the shelves for the picture wall in the dining room today and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Just a few pictures to show how far we've come and of course of the new picture wall :o)
